Story Spotlight: Team USO Runner, Angela Zavodnik

Angela Zavodnik is no stranger to the power of perseverance—both on the racecourse and in life. A dedicated Public Health Program Coordinator from Minnesota, Angela ran her first race, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon (affectionately known as Grandma’s Half Marathon), in June 2009. Since then, she’s been a consistent presence on the starting line nearly every year. Over the years, she’s also completed countless 5Ks, a handful of 7Ks and 10Ks, and various Medtronic Twin Cities events multiple times.

Angela has always held a deep respect for service members and their families—a connection that has become even more personal in recent years. Her son, Connor Dudek, is currently serving in the Minnesota Army National Guard, as of October 2024. He completed his training the same week Angela ran in the Medtronic Twin Cities race last year. Her brother, a proud Purple Heart recipient, has also served our country with honor. These family ties to military service made joining Team USO an easy decision.

“I’ve always known about the [USO], but with my son now in the Army National Guard, it was a no-brainer to get involved and show my support,” Angela shared.

The USO is the leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the well-being of the people serving in America’s military and their families. Since 1941, the USO has been by the side of service members throughout their military service. Impactful support is provided through our 250+ locations around the world, a robust care package delivery program, global entertainment, military spouse and youth programming, and much more—all made possible by dedicated donors, corporate partners, volunteers, and staff.

Angela runs with heart, purpose, and pride—honoring those who serve while encouraging others to stay active and involved. We’re proud to call her a member of Team USO!
